Cook Vineyard Weekly Newsletter 10.24.11
Vintage 2011 is almost over. We have two more weeks of harvest and it looks as if Mother Nature will cooperate with some great harvesting weather.
We will continue to harvest the remaining Syrah and Cabernet vineyards over the next few weeks. Harvest is a great time of year, but we all agree that it will be nice to finish up soon.
Our harvested vineyards are changing color from their lushes green leaves to a yellow reddish brown color as they prepare to drop to the ground. This is the cycle of life for our vines as they prepare to go dormant.
What makes the vines go dormant? In Sonoma we have a hard freeze every year around the beginning of December. This is the trigger mechanism that forces the vines to go dormant.
November and December are the months we begin to prepare for the next season “Vintage 2012”
