Conner continues his amazing run for Sonoma at Stanford Invitational
Cross country Dragons host tri-meet Wednesday
With each race he runs for Sonoma Valley High School’s cross country team, senior standout Alex Conner is either breaking a course record or accomplishing another eye-opening feat.
Conner’s most recent running achievement came at Saturday’s Stanford Invitational at the university in Palo Alto, where he claimed an outstanding second-place finish in the 5K Division 3 boys’ race, which was won by Piner’s nationally ranked runner, Luis Luna, in 15 minutes, eight seconds.
Conner’s time of 15:22 was the eighth fastest time of the day for all runners competing in five separate divisions, and placed him fourth on the all-time Redwood Empire cross country list.
As a team, the Dragons finished 27th out of 33 Division-3 teams, and included senior Steven Wedell’s 88th-place in 17:32; sophomore Christian Martinez’s 133rd in 18:08; sophomore Keegan Ginter’s 174th in 19:09; and sophomore Trey Garcia’s 200th in 21:40.
Sonoma’s boys’ and girls’ cross country teams host St. Vincent’s (Petaluma) and Justin-Siena (Napa) in nonleague tri-meets on the Maxwell Farms Regional Park course at 4 p.m. tomorrow, Wednesday, Sept. 28.
