Claire Gertrude Glennin, 78, passed away peacefully at home in Sonoma on Feb. 6 2011.
Born on Jan. 17, 1933, to George Randall and Irene Daniels and raised in Boston, Mass. Claire received her nursing degree in New York and was president of the student nurses association of New York state. She then moved to California where she received her master's degree in nursing at UCLA. Claire worked at the newly-opened Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles until she moved to Sonoma in 1989. She then became the director of nurses of the rehabilitation center at Kaiser Permanente in Vallejo and remained there until her retirement.
Claire was always recognized for her wit, her intelligence and her devotion to the nursing profession. Preceded in death by her only daughter, Cindy Marshall, Claire is survived by her lifelong friend, Dorrys Ybarra and nephew Wayne Edwards.
Claire particularly enjoyed family parties, attending concerts, traveling in her RV and spending time with her friends.
Claire led a happy and fulfilled life in Sonoma Valley; she volunteered at Vintage House senior center, taught dancing, played the piano with deep passion and expertise and was a member of The Good Sam Club.
Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial celebration of Claire's life on Saturday, Feb. 12, at 11 a.m. at Duggan's Mission Chapel, 525 W. Napa St., Sonoma.
