City's creative arts grant available

The City of Sonoma Cultural and Fine Arts Commission is launching its 2012 Student Creative Arts Award Program. The award program is open to Sonoma Valley residents between the age of 16 and 21 who are studying visual, literary or performing arts.

Those interested in competing for the $2,000 cash award must submit their entries no later than 5 p.m. Jan. 26.

In addition to the application form, all applicants must submit a 200- to 500-word essay explaining the role that art has played in their life and what their plans are for continuing their artistic training.They will be asked to schedule an interview and/or audition during the month of February.

Those submitting a visual or literary application are asked to also submit a formal or informal printed portfolio of no less than five pieces of work. Performing artists may submit a DVD of performance highlights. The application form is available at www.sonomacity.org. Contact the City Clerk at 933-2216 for additional information.
