City, SEC host sustainability day

On Saturday, July 9, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the City of Sonoma and the Sonoma Ecology Center invite residents to "Glean your Green" at Sustainability Day.

This free event will be held at Sonoma Garden Park, 19996 Seventh St. E. in Sonoma.

The day will be filled with workshops, expert panel discussions and vendors, all aimed at making Sonoma more sustainable. In addition, there will be raffle prizes, food and beverages. Attendees will learn how to reduce water consumption with native plants, routes for safe bicycling instead of driving, ideas for reducing energy consumption and more.

A list of the workshops available includes (schedule is subject to change):

• 10:15 to 11 a.m. "Learn and Lead-Eco Leadership 101."

• 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. "Watershed 101: Source to Sea in Sonoma Valley."

• 11:15 a.m. to noon "Get Involved: Volunteering for our Valley."

• 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. "Mulching."

• 12:15 to 1 p.m. "Count me in! Citizen Science."

• 12:30 to 1:15 p.m. "Worm Endings Unlimited."

• 12:30 to 1:15 p.m. "Habitat Gardening."

• 1:15 to 2 p.m. "Home Energy Upgrades A-to-Z."

• 1:30 to 2:15 p.m. "Green Your Diet."

• 1:30 to 2:15 p.m. "Designing and Installing a Habitat Garden."

• 2:15 to 3 p.m. "Greywater 101."

• 2:30 to 3 p.m. "Go Green!"

2:30 to 3:15 p.m. "Habitat Restoration in the Urban Wildland Interface."

• 3:15 to 4 p.m. "Rainwater 101."

There will also be the regularly scheduled native plant nursery workday from 9 a.m. to noon. Hours for the harvest market have changed for that day only and will be 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. There is no need to sign up for the workshops, attendees will be admitted on a first-come, first-serve basis.
