THE MCLAREN MP4-12C, a $229,000, 200-plus-mph road car with a carbon-fiber tub and a lightweight, twin-turbo, 592-hp engine, will be on display at Infineon Raceway during Celebrate Sonoma Day.

Infineon Raceway will open its gates for the third annual Celebrate Sonoma Day at the Sonoma Historic Motorsports Festival, June 4 to 6, pairing fine wine with fine cars for Sonoma Valley residents.

The weekend will feature some of the most beautiful historic cars in the world, racing on the Sonoma Valley road course and parading around the Plaza on Saturday evening during the annual historic race car festival.

Historic cars participating on and off the track will include Ferrari, Lotus, Maserati and Porsche, and the featured marque of the weekend will be McLaren, a legendary name in racing and maker of the new, 200-mile-per-hour supercar, the MP4-12C, which will be on display at the track.

In addition to the on-track action, the weekend will also boast the Wine Country Pavilion, featuring complimentary wine and food pairings from the Sonoma and Napa Valleys.

Sonoma Valley residents will receive VIS (Very Important Sonoman) treatment, which means that tickets for Celebrate Sonoma Day will be half-price for local residents at just $20 (children 12 and under free) and include access into the Wine Country Pavilion.

Sonoma Valley residents will also receive a special lanyard and gift bag upon visiting the Celebrate Sonoma Day booth in the main paddock.

The raceway will also honor several Sonoma Valley businesses during pre-event ceremonies on Saturday, including Kunde Family Estate Winery, the Sonoma County Fair, which celebrates its 75th anniversary this year, and Vella Cheese Company, which celebrates its 80th anniversary.

In addition, the national anthem will be sung by 2009 Sonoma Idol winner Danny Wirick, and Boy Scout Troop 707 will serve as honor guard.

The event is a partnership between Infineon Raceway, the Sonoma Valley Chamber of Commerce, Sonoma Valley Visitors Bureau and The Sonoma Index-Tribune.

Businesses interested in Celebrate Sonoma Day can purchase blocks of 15 tickets or more at $15 a ticket or 25 tickets or more at $10 a ticket, a great way to reward employees. Call 800-870-RACE (7223) for details on tickets.
