Brown named to NAC development panel

Sep 1, 2011 - 06:02 PM

Supervisor Valerie Brown and Supervisor Shirlee Zane have been appointed to key leadership positions within the National Association of Counties for the 2011-12 term.

These appointments were made by National Association of Counties President Lenny Eliason and are effective from July 2011 until July 2012.

Brown has been appointed chair of the International Economic Development Committee. Zane has been appointed to vice chair of the Public Health and Healthy Communities Subcommittee of the Health Committee.

Brown said, "These appointments put Sonoma County at the table in shaping policies which will benefit our community. International trade affects Sonoma County every day. It represents a tremendous opportunity for our entire community. Globalization impacts agriculture, tourism, technology, manufacturing and innovation. You name it - we are in a world market place of ideas and product and must compete. I am honored to have the opportunity to serve and know Sonoma County's ideas will shape national policy on these issues."

Zane, who has previously served as the National Association of Counties Health Steering Committee vice chair, said, "Sonoma County is focused on thriving healthy communities. Setting sound federal policy which ensures that counties have collaborative partners in D.C., is critical. This appointment is an opportunity for me to share the work Sonoma County does, show off our best practices and catch the ear of federal policy makers."
