Anita Madelin Capra
Anita Capra
Anita Madelin Capra passed away on Feb. 9, 2011, at the age of 95, in Sonoma, surrounded by her loving children, Pauline M. Rispoli (Sam), Charlene Gay Joachim (Roger), Raye Capra (Hugh Byrne) and Richard E. Capra (Marlene).
Anita leaves behind 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren and was Aunty Nita to many nieces and nephews.
Anita was born on Oct. 3, 1915, in San Francisco to Lawrence and Elizabeth Petroski. Anita lived there most of her life until seven years ago when she moved to the Petaluma/Sonoma area. She was a very generous person who loved her friends and family and was loved in return.
Anita liked to laugh and play jokes on people. Anita could play most any instrument she picked up, and compose a song just by ear. Grammy loved singing cowboy songs, playing card games and coloring her hair. Having survived the Great Depression, she loved food and enjoyed "feeding" those who came to her home. She was a great cook and loved entertaining.
Anita was primarily a homemaker, but throughout the years had various jobs to earn extra money. She started out as a radio singer, a sales clerk, worked as a waitress, as well as an invoice matcher for Macy's. She taught and modeled for her children a solid work ethic, "If you need something, go work for it."
Anita was extremely generous with her time. She gave unselfishly of herself in whatever aspect was needed, for which we will always be grateful.
A memorial gathering will be held on March 12, 2011. Contact rayebyrne@yahoo.com for time and location.
Generous donations to Hospice By The Bay, 190 W. Napa St., Sonoma, CA 95476, would be welcomed in honor of Anita's life.
