Amazed at out-of-town poster artist
Editor, Index-Tribune:
I just saw the poster for the 2011 Vintage Festival. Being a resident of Sonoma for 35 years, I find it disheartening that an out-of-towner's submission was voted as winner of the poster contest for 2011.
It is my strong feeling that, since this is Sonoma, only local artists' submissions should be chosen and not someone from out of town, not to mention out of state.
Sonoma Plaza/Vintage Festival used to be a really great place for locals to gather and browse vendors' exhibits.
It seems that the rich have moved in and taken over. I know a lot of people who are from Sonoma, and have been for a long period of time, who no longer participate in Plaza events due to the out-of-towners who come here to celebrate events, crowd the streets, have no respect for our Plaza, get drunk and go home, although I do realize this is revenue for Sonoma and I do respect that.
I am absolutely amazed that an out-of-towner was allowed to even submit a poster for our 2011 Vintage Festival poster, no less be chosen over locals' submissions.
