Alma Elizabeth Leal
Alma Elizabeth Leal
Alma Elizabeth Leal passed away on May 7, 2011, in Sonoma.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Louis. Alma was the loving mother of Ronald Leal, and his wife, Sheila, and Lois Leal Meisner; doting grandmother of Evan Leal, and his wife, Kathleen, and great-grandmother of Colby, Jake and Paige Leal.
Alma was born in Sausalito on Oct. 30, 1918, and graduated from Tamalpais High School. When World War II began, she went to work at the Kaiser shipyard in Sausalito, helping to build Liberty ships not knowing her future husband, Louis, would be on one of those ships headed for Europe. After the war, they met, fell in love and were married in 1946. After a briefly owning a farm in Manteca, they moved back to Mill Valley in 1952 where they raised their two children.
They loved camping and spending their vacations and weekends at the coast. After her husband died, Alma worked at the Mill Valley Tennis Club for 22 years retiring in 1995. She always loved Mill Valley but to be closer to her children, she moved to Sonoma in 2003.
All who knew Alma, knew her generosity and that she loved to dance, loved to be with her friends and family, and knew that her smile, which was unquestionably genuine, would light up a room. She will be deeply missed by her friends and family who loved her. May she rest in peace.
