Adopt a senior pet at PLL
Nancy King
Hello Sonoma! I trust everyone is thinking about the upcoming holiday and all of the wonderful things in life we Sonomans have to be thankful for.
For us here at Pets Lifeline, we are celebrating our senior pets. November is Adopt a Senior Pet Month and we encourage anyone interested in bringing some love into their home to come down and meet some of our senior cats and dogs.
To support the adoption of our more mature residents, we have special adoption rates at $75 for dogs over 5 years old and $25 for cats over 6 months. We have some absolutely amazing senior dogs: Lucy our loveable Chihuahua (our longest term resident); Kera, our sassy affectionate old English bulldog; and Oreo, a Boston terrier mix who is our newest resident and we hope does not have long to wait for his forever home.
For those of you who hesitate at adopting an older cat or dog, please consider the joy they will bring into your life knowing they had your love and affection for the rest of their days. They have a much better chance of living a longer, healthier life in a home than they do in a shelter environment. Just like humans, the more we mature, the more appreciative we are of the simple things in life – a senior dog or cat is not much different. They are housebroken, not as much inclined to mischief and just happy to have a warm bed, a regular meal and little TLC. And what a great companion to have with not a lot of fuss and a magnitude of unconditional love. Come on down and see for yourself.
Don’t miss some of our great holiday events coming up. We are blessed with some of our dear friends keeping us close to their hearts for the holiday. Cornerstone Sonoma is combining its seventh annual Lighting of the Snowmen on Saturday, Nov. 26, at 4:30 p.m. with a charity benefit for Pets Lifeline. We’ll have cats up for adoption all over the site, craft tables and the whole complex will be lit up with welcoming fun and festivity for all. And, of course, the Lighting of the Snowmen.
Sondra Bernstein (I am her biggest fan) has invited us to participate in Estate’s 2011 Holiday Open House on Saturday, Dec. 10, from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., where she will also be signing her new cookbook. Can’t wait for that – no doubt Sondra’s cookbook will be chock full of delectable recipes and new ideas that we could have never come up with.
And last but not least, please join us at the Sonoma Community Center on Sunday, Dec. 11, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. for Pets Lifeline’s annual Santa Paws where we will capture on film that special moment with your pet and Santa Claus. Not only will there be pictures with the big guy, but Santa’s workshop will be a bustle with holiday crafts for people and pets. And you can buy the Pets Lifeline 2012 Wine Country Women Calendar at all these events.
If you need it before then, stop by Readers’ Books, Sonoma Home, Yoga Community and many other spots in town where they are available for sale.
Ciao for now and a happy Thanksgiving to all.
