A look at fungi

Dec 15, 2011 - 04:12 PM

The Bouverie Preserve is taking sign-ups for its next Backyard Naturalist Program, titled Fabulous Fungi.

During the Jan. 7 event, biologist Jeanne Wirka will teach about the critical role that fungi plays in the ecosystem as well as basic identification techniques.

The workshop runs from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will include a brief classroom discussion followed by a one-to-three-mile hike to known mushroom spots at the preserve to see specimens up close. However this is not a collecting class and no mushrooms will be harvested.

The cost to attend is $25.

The Bouverie Preserve of Audubon Canyon Ranch is located at 13935 Sonoma Highway in Glen Ellen, across from the Sonoma Valley Regional Park.
